I tried not to post anything about all the craziness with the MH370 plane, more because being here while that happened gave me the possibility to see how people react in this type of cases, but it seems almost impossible.
What I can say for sure, as a total perception, is that all this mess actually explained more the Malay culture than any other article on the web. If you, as an outsider, feel that it is unbelievable for a country to loose a damn plane, and to be put in front of the spotlight the next day in front of the whole world and run away, not knowing what to do and say, well…that is the culture here. I think they have a default setting in the genes to not accept a crisis and the possibility of solving it. They just accept that it happened, and move on. I thought that I was the only crazy person with this perception at the beginning, but now I see I was right. If anyone had any doubt about the power that the customs and the government has in shaping a whole country, now I feel it. I was talking to some international friends, all coming from ex-communist countries, and we agreed that this is how it should have been decades ago in Europe. You feel free, but you are being played by your government. It is sad, and I truly believe that all this events will just go away and be forgotten. I can bet that Malaysia will not use this situation to put some truth in the saying “ there is no such thing as bad publicity”.
This is an article that I found that I think gives the best explanation about this country, from all points of view:
Enjoy the paradox :)
