So, the time to go to Langkawi has arrived. This is the most visited island that Malaysia has, as it is open every day of the year and the mooson doesn’t affect it. Well, all sounds good so far, so let’s do this.
And which is the first step that you do when it come to a mini holiday? You plan it, you migt say. Yeah, that is exactly what I thought. Guess what… didn’t turn out like that. I started planning a 4 days trip to the opposite side of Malaysia, which turned out to be fully booked because it was holiday, and these people really get out of the city in any holiday. And of course I had bus tickets for it, but..surprise… there were no more available places to get the ferry to get on the island…so…. change of plans 1 day before,so let’s go to Langkawi.
I left with 2 crazy girls, my latina drama Cindy and my crazy Maid General Manager Filipina Margaux. We were supposed to meet Peter on the island, so all sounded good. I went home after work Friday night, , put some clothes in a bag and I was ready for the vacation.
And there we go…3 girls on a night bus towards Langawi. All good, confortable chairs, the girls felt asleep after 1 hour and I was listening to music and expecting to be on the island at 9 a.m the next day.
So, around 1 a.m we stop in a gas stop. I was thinking that we would just put some gas and leave. All the bus was totally asleep. And we stay…..and stay…. and stay…… the driver is not getting in. Ok, i was thinking maybe he is making a break. Managed to take a 30 minutes nap, and when I woke up….surprise…we are in the same place! I was like….wtf….. why are we not moving? And then I realize the surprise… the bus got fucked up and the driver could not fix it, so he called the mecanics to check what piece he needs, go to the shop, take the piece and bring it back. And any normal person would say….yea..ok…but… shouldn’t you just let the people know in the bus? Well, not in Malaysia you do not. And trust me…when asians start sleeping, that is it. They will sleep anytime and anywhere, it is still a mistery for me,but they are like that.
Anyways, because we spend like 5 fricking hours spend in a bus station to wait for the damn piece, the girl woke up, we got out of the bus and started dancing latino music, I tried to hich hike in the gas station ( was an epic fail, these people have never heard of it ) and managed to make new friends with guys from the shop.
We managed to get to the destination at 1:00 p.m!!!, get the ferry at 2 and be on the island at 3 p.m. And it was all worthed. Malaysian islands are full of foreigners, cheap accomodation, nice food, duty free ( where the bear is cheaper than the chewing gum!! ) and crazy shops everywhere!!!
It was as chill as I was hopping, we went island hopping, because there are 99 islands actually around Langkawi, and even discovered a new beach witch was almost empty where we could enjoy being stupid.
The main elements which I remained after this trip:
1. I think local transportation hates me!
2. Islands are full of shopping things, which are nice and cheap!
3. Latino girls can bulshit a guy like no other! Really, they should write a book about it.
4. I love duty frees–> had cheap alcohol and chocolate on the beach.
5. many many many many bars on the beach, beautiful!
6. Still asian people have no ideea how to take photos ( someone was kipping their finger on the camera while taking us a picture?!! how?!!? it took her 5 minute to understand how to take a picture also! So no, dear Asian people, you only know how to take selfies, that is it!
7. Langkawi is great as a first island to visit, so you can go for snorkeling or scuba diving on the others, which are more free and cleaner.
8. I felt inlove with mango juice! It is my new favourite drink!
9. This sun actually burns, but I was smart enough to discover that muslim take pills to not get a sun burn! How smart is that? And yes, I do have those pils ( mu ha ha ha)
10. You will buy shit. Embrace it.
